How and Why the 2007 Enrolled Class Chose Creighton
Elite—Most Selective Top 30 Universities
130 admits were collected by our enrolled frosh—they turned these schools down for Creighton (35% selected Creighton and 65% enrolled at one of these universities) for the following reasons:
- More access to Faculty and more encouragement and support by the faculty … smaller classes and research options with faculty
- Preferred our size and that NO graduate students teach classes at Creighton
- More access to Leadership Programs and Performing Arts and Service Activities
- Felt they could live a more balanced life and accomplish bigtime goals
- Merit Awards and lower overall price which is about $10,000 less before any merit awards reduce that price further
Big 12, Big 10, Pac 10 Flagship state public schools—2 of 3 picked Creighton over these schools
800 admits collected at these 33 universities from students enrolled at Creighton—many were also invited to join their Honors Programs—for the following reasons:
- More access to faculty and NO graduate students teaching
- Viewed Creighton students as more motivated and leadership service oriented
- Stronger academic reputation on a national level
- Creighton has a national student body (most state schools have a huge in-state density)
- Placement rates into professional and graduate schools
- Strong academic and professional advising—students feel we help them focus and plan
- Graduation in four years not five years—saves time and money
- Opportunity for Research and work in chosen fields (internships)
- The Creighton Advantage—only 4% to 5% of applicants gain admissions to Creighton’s Medical and Dental School but about 50% of Creighton graduates gain admission at Creighton—10 times the rate of success of other students, the advantage is also extended to students in Pharmacy, Physical Therapy, Occupational Therapy, and Law School and MBA School
Other Jesuit Universities
620 admits collected at other Jesuit universities and colleges enrolled at Creighton (55% chose Creighton and 45% chose another Jesuit institution) for the following reasons:
- Academic Reputation
- Ideal Size and sense of a stronger campus Community and Service Orientation—“Jesuitness”
- National student body
- The Campus … it has its own identity and sense of space … overall beauty and safety
- Students seemed more spirited about being part of Creighton—sports teams, attendance at Basketball games (top 15 in the nation)
- Omaha Music scene—the top bands all perform in Omaha at the Quest Center—located less than a mile from campus
- Creighton offered more business internships and higher quality internships
- Creighton’s unique liberal arts curriculum with the sophistication of having more professional school choices than any other Jesuit option
